Lock a 3+ run of one suit before touching anything else. Every strategy collapses without this mandatory meld.
K, Q, J and Ace carry 10 penalty points. If they don't fit after 3–4 turns, release them.
Use jokers to build a second sequence or a 4-card set — never to prop up the still-missing pure sequence.
What rivals pick and discard reveals their target melds. Don't feed them the card they're holding.
5–8s connect in both directions (3-4-5 & 5-6-7). Keep middles longer; dump extremes sooner.
Watch suit & rank connectivity, not red/black. Many beginners bundle by colour accidentally.
Use auto-sort at deal; manually group pure-sequence candidates in top rows for fast scanning.
In pool rummy a cheap first drop (20 pts) is better than a doomed hand's 80 pts.
Ace is 10 points unless seated in a meld. Hold one Ace only if a K or 2 is already peeling out.
Two decks = 8 of every card. Don't assume a card was 'just discarded' — it can reappear.
Minimise penalties on lost deals; a 6-point defeat is invisible across 20 hands.
Set session time/loss caps — tilt causes more losses than bad cards. See responsible gaming.
